Round 3 Recap: 2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Jason Dufner is the leader in the clubhouse after three round of play, and his streak of early low rounds (that has earned him the nickname of Mr. Weekday around here) could pull in his first PGA Tour victory if he can fight off the field just one more day.  Jason has stumbled a few times early in the PGA Tour season (I would say he has played some of the best and most consistent golf, it just always happens on Thursday and Friday), but this week is different for Jason.  With a two shot lead, the cool calm and collected demeanor, and his putter red hot, I really hope he breaks out on Sunday for his first PGA Tour win.

Who will be chasing Dufner?  Graham DeLeat at -15 under, John Rollins (who I thought hit the shot of the day from 190 with a 5iron through the trees), smooth stroking Erinie Els, everyone’s favorite 40 year old (except for Phil) Steve Stricker, gold ole world #2 LUKE Donald, and the definition of crusty veterans Ken Duke.  And that is just the list of names who are within five shots.  I am not even considering the group of people that could come from more than 6 back.

With all those cats on Jason’s tail he has his work cut out for him.  But if he just thinks of his Sunday round as a sweet and easy Thursday afternoon round, no one can beat him.  I also wanted to give a little shot out to Rickie Fowler who is 6 back at -11.  I think Rickie could go low on Sunday to get himself in contention (and lest face it Jason could fall back towards him).  I would really like to see the OK Orange win his first event as well, but I really would like to see him make a few strong finishes prior to the US Open.  (yes that is the first mention of the 2012 US Open on the Chicago Golf Guy blog!).  Happy Sunday everyone.

Will Sunday in Louisiana be Jason's break through win?
