A star studded slightly wet and colorful lot up atop the leader board at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio. Rory Sabbatini sporting a neon green pair of pants from the Dread Pirate Fowler collection. The green pants must have worked (not going to give any credit to the hat) for Rory carded a pair of 69’s to start his week. Scott Stallings and Spencer Levin both shot around even par, leaning on their spectacular first rounds to remain near the top only one shot back from Rory at -5 under. Tiger Woods shot 69 to find himself only one shot back from the leader at -5 under as well. Jim Furyk, Henrick Stenson and Lucas Glover all shot 68 for the low round of day two. Furyk is closer to the leader at -4 under, but the bizaro Dufner (Henrick Stenson loves to throw clubs, kick and scream at his ball, and all out freak out while playing golf unlike the cool calm Durfer… hence Bizaro Dufner???!) finds himself only 4 back with US Open Winner Lucas Glover.
Dustin Johnson (welcome back sir), Rickie Fowler, Ryo Ishikawa, and Adam Scott all find themselves at -2 under par. Those four would make a great pairing for a Saturday round. I still have to give an immense amount of credit to Dustin Johnson for coming back of a long medical break and finding himself right in the mix his first tournament back. Most players would have been happy to just make the cut, but DJ is only 4 shots back, and in a T12 position. Maybe this is the year that Dustin wins a Major? I know he is always a player I find myself rooting for when he is near the top of a Major Championship (which is more often than we all think).
Who didn’t make the cut this weekend? There is a surprising amount of big names that did not make the weekend, this weekend. Bill Haas, Nick Watney, Bubba Watson, Ben Curtis, Angel Cabrera, Rory McIlroy Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Webb Simpson, Louis Oosthuizen, Tommy Gainey, Gary Woodland, Mike Weir, Sang-Moon Bae, and Phil Mickelson (Phil and Sang-Moon both WD after the first round, I wonder if the pair of 79’s added to the thought process of the WD?).
