Ryan Moore, Stewart Cink, and Webb Simpson all carded a 65 at Quail Hollow just outside of Charlotte North Carolina. Simpson chipped in from 35 yards in front of the par-4 eighth green for eagle, and then made a 60+ foot birdie putt that might have rolled off the 12th green if the cup didn’t get in the way (except it did get in the way, so Webb was all good). ”I was nervous playing with Tiger. I prayed a lot out there,” said Simpson, who lives about a mile away from Quail Hollow and already was on edge about trying to perform well for the neighbors (although he really knows the course, and enjoys the lay out). ”Once I made a couple birdies, I kind of enjoyed it.” I am sure that the hole out on 8 for eagle, and the bomb and a half he made on the 12th will shake the nerves from anyones game.
Ricke Fowler shot a 66 on Thursday, only one shot back from the leaders. Rickie is 0 for 71 starts on the PGA Tour without a win, and I would say he is hands down the most popular player without a win on tour. I would really like to see Rickie play well. He is good for the game of golf, and if he is this popular when he hasn’t won, imagine what the golf world would be like when he wins (not to mention what happens if he wins a major).
