A course record setting 63 from Matt Every at the Valero Texas Open on Thursday. 9 birdies and 9 pars, 12 of 14 fairways and a ton of putts dropping. What was the kick off point of Matt’s round, oh the bounce off the rocks onto the fringe of his firs hole (#10) then draining the putt. I think this just goes to show all of us weekend warriors that one lucky bounce early in the round (like the 2nd shot) can sometimes make or break your round. But even with a lucky break, you cannot beat play a great round without making every putt that you look at.
Talking of bad breaks, what did Kevin Na do after recording the largest score ever recorded in PGA Tour history last year in the Valero Open… He literally gave the hole the shirt of his back. As a bit of a memorial for his 16 on the par fourth 9th hole, Kevin left his shirt that he wore last year on the very tree that gave him so much trouble. Check out my blog post on video’s to watch after a bad round (it stars Kevin Na and his historic 16 at the 2011 Valero Open).
