The luck of the Irish may not be something that was made up by the Dublin Press Company in order to sell more green hats on St. Patrick’s Day. After watching Padraig Harrington shoot a 61 on Thursday with only 22 putts (14 greens with a one putt), maybe that whole Irish luck wasn’t all hype. The Irishman has not won since his PGA Championship victory in 2008, but he is off to a great start this week with his lowest round ever as a professional.
What about the rest of the crowd? Luke Donald and last week’s winner Justin Rose both finished day one at 4 under par. The world #2 Luke Donald would become the #1 player in the world again with a win this St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Another great round yesterday came from Kenny Perry. The Champions Tour player shot a 5 under 66 yesterday (with a bogey on the 18th) and showed the world that the 50+ guys can still go low, but can they stay low.
Should be a great week of PGA Tour golf on the third leg of the Florida Swing at Innisbrook Resort – Copperhead · Palm Harbor, Florida. Happy St. Patrick’s Day weekend everyone and get out there and enjoy this beautiful weather!
