Round 3 Recap: 2012 Accenture Match Play Championship

Down to the quarter finals in the Accenture Match Play Championship, with three of my four picks for the final four gone on day 3.  My only pick left is Rory Mcilroy who looked great against Miguel A. Jimenez.  Rory never really stumbled against a very tough Jimenez staying 1 or 2 up for most of the day and ultimately winning 3 & 1.  Matt Kucher is a force to be reckoned with.  The former US Amateur champion makes it to the Quarter Finals for the second year in a row.  Hunter Mahan played great today against the top US player in the world Steve Stricker.  Hunter beat his pal and Presidents Cup team mate 4 & 3.  Lee Westwood is having is best showing so far in the Accenture Match Play Championship by beating Nick Watney.  Only two #1 seeds are left Lee and Rory.  Both of whom are trying to ultimately become the #1 player in the world (but who isn’t right?).  Sang-Moon Bae is the highest seed still left in the tournament and if he was not playing Rory tomorrow, he would be my pick to make it to the semi’s.

Well as I said last night my picks are about as good as a screen door on a submarine (sorry couldn’t come up with anything better).  I picked my final four yesterday and managed to get one right.  At this point I am just trying to save face, and I am only going to wish for great matches and will not subject my readers to my bad choices of match winners.  I would love to see a Rory vs Lee and Kucher vs Wilson in the semi final matches.  That way we are ensured to have one American and one International playing for the Championship.  Maybe a litter Ryder Cup preview?
