Round 2 Recap: 2012 Accenture Match Play Championship

Fantastic action on day two of the Accenture Match Play Championship.  Rory Mcilory advances to the third day and his hopes of the becoming the world #1 are still alive.  Tiger Tiger Woods stumbled a little bit with the putter and did not advance to day three.  After being behind most of the match, Tiger knocks his second shot on 18 to inside 6 feet, but could not knock in the birdie putt that would take the match to extra holes with Nick Watney.  Lee Westwood the world #3 advanced to day three for the first time in 12 years of playing in this tournament.  He joked about having to call home and have more clothes sent out to him (via UPS), as he has never played on Friday in this event.  (If you do not follow Lee Westwood on Twitter you should he is a riot of benny hill like British humor).  Dustin Johnson defeated Francesco Molinari 7 & 5 which was the largest margin of victory so far for the entire tournament.  DJ is playing great right now, and if his short game catches up to his long game, look out world.  I wish I could say which matches are going to be my best picks to watch, but frankly with the guys that are left, every single match is going to be exciting and down to the wire.  I wouldn’t be surprised if 25% of the matches on Friday go to extra holes, and 65% are going to go down to 18.

Here are my picks for the final four:
Dustin Johnson, Steve Stricker, Rory Mcilroy, and Paul Lawrie.  With a Dustin Johnson and Rory Mcilroy championship round.  I’m pulling for a DJ win, but not sure if he can take the kid on and come out victorious with the world #1 on the line.  Hopefully I pick better golf brackets than I do March Madness brackets, cause I typically get beat by my girlfriend during March Madness and she picks teams based on their colors and mascots.  Good Luck to our Friday Finalists.
