Round 1 Recap: 2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans

If you have never been to New Orleans during Mardi Gras, then you don’t know what your missing.  Your shoes stick to the street, your crammed packed full of people 24 hours a day, and there is a good chance your going to get thrown up on, throw up yourself, or get pick pocketed.  With that being said New Orleans is a beautiful city (and it is one of my favorite cities for the other 51 non Mardi Gras weeks a year).

The PGA Tour is just down the street from New Orleans at the beautiful TPC of Louisiana, and its a star studied field this week.  4 out of the top 10 ranked players in the world are in attendance this week (and I havent even mentioned our new world number one taking the number one spot without even picking up a club last week).  So whos in the lead?  Cameron Tringale and Ken Duke are atop the leader board after first round 65’s, with the big easy Ernie Els one shot behind at -6 under.

Other notables in Louisiana are Mr. weekday Jason Duffner, the human rain delay Ben Crane, and arguably the best putting stroke on tour Steve Striker all within a few shots of the first round leaders.  Bubba Watson the newest Masters Champion and Father held his own in his first appearance since his breakthrough Major tournament.  71 after being mentally and physically drained (who can blame him) is very respectable.  Although he did win this tournament last year, and I know the folks at Zurich would love to see BW win his first tournament after his Green Jacket.
