Round three of the Valero Texas Open was a bit reminiscent of a early season fourth round by most standards. Players are falling back left and right with no regard to who will win this tournament. With only 19 players under par in round three this tournament is really prime for the taking. Ben Curtis is our third round leader despite his third round 73. Who is chasing down the 2003 British Open Champ? Highest ranked player in the field, Matt Kuchar (and the low round of Saturday) played great to get back to -3 and 6 shots off the lead. Kevin Huh (1st time winner this year on the PGA Tour) also had a great Saturday round, to get within 5.
What happened to Matt Every? After a scorching first round 63 he has coasted a little bit, but still remains in 2nd place and only 3 off the lead. If Matt can find a way to rekindle that first round magic, into some Sunday magic, we may have another first time winner on the PGA Tour. Not that we are not pulling for you Ben, but you won a major, let some of the other guys into the winners circle.
Chicago Golf Guy side note: Wish me luck tomorrow big scramble tomorrow in Lake Geneva teeing off at 9am, leaving at 6am, still at work at 11:02 with no end in site yet. Going to be a redbull infused round tomorrow (thank the golf gods it is a scramble).
